Paintball tech/theories

Some random theories, diagrams, etc that i've come up with.

These theories are mainly untested, but i think there's good stuff behind them.  if you have any questions, email me.

Aerodynamic Analysis of a Paintball

flyin balls!

Aerodynamic analysis of a paintball.  the laminar boundary layer has poor adhesion to the surface, and so results in a large pressure wake behind the paintball, which causes a lot of drag.

the turbulent boundary layer has better adhesion to the surface, and the low pressure wake is much smaller, with much less drag.

on a paintball, the seam could cause a turbulent boundary layer on one side of the paintball and not on the other.  this would cause an uneven pressure wake, which makes the paintball very inaccurate.

Electronic Stingray Modification

zippity zappity pop.

here's an idea for an electro ray.  the only problem is, a rainmaker circuit board, MAC valve, a main reg and an LP reg would cost more than a cheap electro anyway.

The Theoretically Perfect Paintball Barrel (in terms of length and porting)

long and holey.

the theoretically perfect barrel.  long enough to let the gas expand to accelerate the paintball... then small vents to let the gas out slowly to prevent noise, then larger vents farther on to vent more gas.

Force Feed Hopper: Pressure

don't let the pressure get to you

the idea is this: when you fire the gun, a burst of gas pushes a paintball out the barrel.  the same gas (from a different hole) goes into the hopper while the bolt is closed.  this small increase in pressure of 4 or 5 psi in the hopper will help push a paintball down the feed tube faster than gravity.  not much force, but enough to help.  this is an effect of the air agitate mod of which i am so fond.
Shown on a stingray for simplicity.

Stingray Valve Assembly

mmmmm.... valvey.

apparently lots of people will tell you how to put a stingray valve together, and none of them know how to do it.  this is how.

much shorter. like a midget trigger pull.

how to do a simple trigger job.  this will work on any mechanical paintball gun.  shown on a stingray for simplicity.

when the hammer pushes the sear forward, the trigger is pulled and pushes the sear up to release the hammer.  the sear preload screw effectively pulls the trigger most of the way so your effective pull is very short.

the rear travel limiter keeps you from pulling back so far after the sear is tripped.  this reduces the time you spend pulling slack on your trigger, and increases the bps you can achieve.
